About Me

Zena initially started her journey in healthcare studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science majoring in Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Western Australia. She went on to tackle medical research as part of her honours project at the Harry Perkins Institute of Western Australia focusing on neural disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. After this Zena decided to follow her grandfather’s footsteps and pursue dentistry embracing his lifetime philosophy of philanthropy.

During this time, Zena became involved with advocacy at the University becoming elected as Ordinary Guild Councillor for the UWA Guild Council in 2017. In this role she worked with the women’s department, welfare and advocacy committees and corporate services to ensure students’ needs were met on campus.

Zena also volunteered her time with the Access Department – focusing on providing support for students with chronic illness, disabilities and mental illness. She served both on their executive team and as their marketing manager . This inspired her passion for dental care that is accessible and inclusive, not just in the scope of accessibility but all other intersections. Her volunteer work doesn’t stop there, having worked with Healing Smiles WA for dental rescue days as well as the Tzu Chi Foundation providing care to the homeless and people at risk.

In her spare time, she volunteers with BeyondBlue, a mental health organisation, speaking about her lived experience and sharing stories about healing in a safe place. She is an avid writer, storyteller and spoken word poet, performing multiple times all over Perth as well as having her work published in local magazines. She believes in the power of authenticity and connection and brings this to the clinic everyday. She loves learning languages and is currently learning Auslan, French and Spanish. Outside of the clinic, if you don’t find her at an easel or a pottery wheel, you’ll find her knee deep in a collection of house plants.

Zena is an advocate for holistic health and helping people achieve wellness in all aspects of life. She believes going to the dentist shouldn’t be a scary experience or overwhelming and so she strives to provide a warm, patient centred and positive experience. She knows, from personal experience, that sometimes life circumstances can make it hard to access appropriate care and she believes that empathy and understanding are key to a good patient-dentist relationship. Zena enjoys empowering her patients with the knowledge to make the right choices for their oral health together as a team.
